Tupidanthus calyptratus

Mallet Flower

Tupidanthus calyptratus is a fast-growing, tropical tree grown for its lush foliage. It grows with a rounded habit bearing large and glossy, bright-green leaves that droop downward to give a weeping appearance. Green flower buds appear in spring and open to produce small, green coloured flowers in summer. It typically grows to 5 m tall and the same wide, but is commonly trimmed to sizes much less than this. Best performance is achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site protected from frost. This stunning tree is often included in tropical plantings, maintained in a container, planted around a pool or barbecue area, or included in mixed plantings.
