Commonly known as the Broad-Leaved European Lime, this tree is grown for its impressively coloured foliage and tidy form. The glossy leaves emerge a fresh green colour in spring, age to become dark green, then develop golden tones in autumn before falling. Small and fragrant, yellow flowers are borne in summer and these are great for attracting bees. It grows with a broad and rounded habit to about 20 m tall and 10 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and dry periods. The Broad-Leaved European Lime is commonly grown as a specimen or used in an avenue planting.
