Tilia europaea (Linden Tree)

How to grow Tilia europaea (Linden Tree) in NZ

Tilia europaea (Linden Tree) grows best in full sun with fertile, well drained soil. Improve the planting area with compost before planting and water regularly until the tree establishes. Apply a quality slow release fertiliser each spring to encourage healthy growth, lush foliage, and abundant flowering. Provide plenty of space so the tree can mature naturally.

Tilia europaea (Linden Tree) care tips

Tilia europaea (Linden Tree) requires minimal maintenance once established. Water during prolonged dry periods while young and apply mulch around the base to conserve soil moisture while keeping it clear of the trunk. Prune only to remove damaged, diseased, or crossing branches and to maintain a strong, balanced framework where required.

Tilia europaea (Linden Tree) size, spacing, and growth rate

Tilia europaea (Linden Tree) typically grows 20 to 30 metres tall with a spread of 12 to 18 metres. It has a moderate growth rate and gradually develops into a magnificent broad crowned tree.
