Syzygium australe (aka Eugenia australe) is commonly known as Creek Lilly Pilly, Brush Cherry, or Watergum. It is a small, evergreen tree featuring colourful and glossy foliage. It grows with an erect, columnar habit carrying dense, dark green leaves with new foliage having a distinct red-bronze tint. It produces masses of white blossoms through summer which are great for attracting birds and result in dark pink-red berries in autumn. This is a fast-growing tree that will reach about 8 m tall and 4 m wide and is easily contained with trimming. It performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site, though it will tolerate extended dry periods, coastal environments, and moderate frost.
