Sorbus aucuparia Details

Sorbus aucuparia, commonly known as Mountain Ash, is a medium-sized, deciduous tree with impressive characteristics. Large clusters of cream-white flowers are produced in spring which result in masses of bright red-orange berries which can remain on the tree into winter. The berries are great for attracting birds. It bears lush, dark green foliage which develops yellow-orange tones in autumn before falling. This tree grows with an upright and rounded crown to about 12 m tall and 10 m wide, and performs best when grown in full sun or on a well-drained site. It will tolerate dry periods, frost, and cool climates, and some wind, though will produce a better formed tree if protected while it establishes. Sorbus aucuparia is commonly grown as a specimen or added to a mixed planting.
