Sequoiadendron giganteum Details

Sequoiadendron giganteum, commonly known as the Giant Redwood, is a large, evergreen tree and aptly named for its red coloured wood. It features feathery, dark green foliage which is held on broad branches emerging off a central trunk. It will grow to about 60 m tall and spread 20 m wide if space allows with a trunk that may reach 6-8 m in diameter after several hundred years. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site, though it is tolerant of coastal environments, exposed sites, dry periods, cool climates, and frost. The Giant Redwood is commonly grown as a specimen, planted to provide shelter, or used for timber production.
