Sapium sebiferum Details

Sapium sebiferum, commonly known as Chinese Tallowood or The Popcorn Tree, is grown for its autumn colours and great form. The heart shaped leaves emerge green in spring and develop brilliant shades of red, yellow, and orange in autumn before falling. The show is spectacular. Yellow-green catkins are borne in spring and add additional interest to this tree. It grows with a pyramidal shape when young and tends to broaden out as it matures to eventually reach 8 m tall and the same wide. It grows best in full sun on a well-drained site on most soil conditions, barring the extremes of wet and dry. It will tolerate frost, dry periods, and some wind, but will produce a better tree if looked after while it establishes. Sapium sebiferum is commonly grown in parks as a specimen, used in street and avenue plantings, or used to border an entrance. This is a lovely tree that will provide a lot of pleasure.
