Commonly known as the Dwarf Pussy Willow, this a deciduous tree grown for its impressive flowers and pendulous growth habit. Before the foliage emerges in late winter, trees produce a showy display of cream-grey, “woolly” flowers (catkins). The display is both unusual and extraordinary on the naked stems. The foliage comprises large, bright green leaves in spring, which age to dark green, then develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. The size of this tree will depend on the height at which it is grafted but typically it is 2 m tall and the same wide. This tree performs best when grown in full sun or partial shade on soils that remain consistently moist. It will tolerate frost and cool climates but does not do well with extended dry periods. This Willow is commonly grown as a specimen or included in a mixed planting. It is a fabulous and highly rewarding tree.
