Quercus variabilis is commonly known as the Chinese Cork Oak due to its interesting rough and spongy bark which is cork like in texture. Thie Chinese Cork Oak grows as a large, evergreen tree and will typically reach 20 m tall and 15 m wide with a rounded, open growth habit. The foliage is light green and really adds to the aesthetic value of this tree. It grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered position, and it tolerant of frost, cool climates, urban pollution, and dry periods.
