The English Oak is a large and stately, deciduous tree. This majestic beauty typically grows to 25 m tall and 15 m wide with a broad and spreading crown. The foliage emerges light green in spring, ages to dark green, then lightens only slightly before falling in autumn. Small, yellow-green flowers in spring produce brown acorns in autumn. It performs best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun, and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, heavy soils, and some wind. The English Oak is commonly grown as a specimen in large gardens and parks with the added advantage of fantastic summer shade.
