How to grow Pyrus ussuriensis in NZ

Water regularly during establishment to encourage strong root development and choose a site with space for its canopy to mature.

Pyrus ussuriensis care tips

Pyrus ussuriensis is relatively low maintenance once established. Water during extended dry periods especially through summer. Apply mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds keeping it clear of the trunk. Light pruning in winter will maintain structure and remove any crossing branches. Feed in early spring with a balanced fertiliser to support healthy growth and flowering.

Pyrus ussuriensis size, spacing, and growth rate

Pyrus ussuriensis typically grows to around 8 to 12 metres tall and 6 to 8 metres wide in NZ conditions. It forms a broad rounded canopy that provides good seasonal shade. Allow at least 4 to 5 metres of space from buildings or neighbouring trees. The growth rate is moderate to fast when planted in fertile well drained soil in a sunny position.
