“Purple Wave” is a quick growing, small, NZ native tree that features colourful foliage. The serrated leaves have a green topside and a purple underside, and are held densely on slender branches. The tree becomes smothered in white, blossom like flowers through summer. This evergreen grows quickly to about 5 m tall and 2.5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate dry periods, coastal environments, heavy soils, moderate frost, and some wind, though young trees should be protected while they are establishing. “Purple Wave” is commonly included in a mixed planting, planted as a quick growing shelter tree, used for screening, or grown as a specimen. It also suits being used in revegetation and riparian plantings.
