Pseudotsuga menziesii Details

Pseudotsuga menziesii, commonly known as Douglas Fir, Douglas Spruce, Columbian Pine, or Oregon Pine, is a large, evergreen conifer. The dark green foliage is flattened, needle-like, and held densely. The cones borne amidst the foliage are held in a pendulous manner and create another point of interest. This evergreen grows with a conical shape when young and becomes broader as it reaches 30 m tall and 10 m wide. It performs best when grown in full sun on a well-drained site, though it is tolerant of frost, cool climates, wind, and dry periods. Douglas Fir is commonly grown for timber production but also makes for a stately specimen. Young trees are particularly aesthetic.
