Pseudocydonia sinensis

Pseudocydonia sinensis is a deciduous tree grown for its colourful foliage, flowers, and edible fruit. The leaves emerge a fresh green in spring, age to dark green, then develop yellow and red tones in autumn before falling. Showy, pink flowers are borne in late spring and result in yellow fruits in autumn. The fruit have a pleasant flavour. An interesting feature of this tree is the grey bark which readily flakes off to reveal a dull yellow under-surface. It grows with a broad crown to about 8 m tall and 5 m wide though can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this tree is achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry. This tree makes a fine addition to any garden and is commonly grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
