“Spire” is a variety of Flowering Cherry that features masses of white blossoms in spring just before the foliage emerges. The flowers age to become pink before being shed. New foliage in spring is a distinctive bronze colour, which ages to mid-green, then develops colourful orange and yellow tones in autumn before falling. This deciduous tree grows with a narrow vase shape to about 10 m tall and 5 m wide, and performs best when planted in a full sun position on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and periods of dry. “Spire” is a stunning tree when in flower and makes a fine addition to any garden. It is commonly used in avenue plantings, grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting, or included in Japanese and cottage gardens.
