Poliothyrsis sinensis

Chinese Pearlbloom

Commonly known as the Chinese Pearlbloom, this is an attractive tree with fabulous flowers. Large and showy clusters of fragrant, white flowers are borne in summer and are a sight to behold. These contrast wonderfully with the lush, dark green foliage which serves as a lovely backdrop. This deciduous tree has foliage that emerges dark-red-bronze in spring, ages to become emerald green, then develops colourful yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a compact and upright habit to about 6 m tall and 5 m wide, and can easily be contained with trimming. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site. It is hardy to frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry. The Chinese Pearlbloom makes for a wonderful specimen tree and its smaller size makes it suitable for homes with larger gardens.
