Podocarpus totara Matapouri Blue, commonly known as Blue Tōtara, is a popular, NZ native tree with blue-grey foliage. The leaves are short, needle-like, and held densely. It grows with a pyramidal shape to about 10 m tall and 5 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site, though it is tolerant of mild drought, frost, cool climates, and coastal environments. Podocarpus Matapouri Blue is commonly included in a mixed planting in a large garden, grown as a specimen, or trimmed into a hedge. It is great for adding colour and variety to a garden and is popular with landscape designers.
