Podocarpus elatus (Brown Pine) grows best in full sun to partial shade in well drained soil enriched with organic matter. It tolerates coastal conditions and a range of soil types across New Zealand provided drainage is good. Water regularly while establishing to encourage strong root development. Once established it is reasonably drought tolerant and low maintenance.
