“Ace of Clubs” is a variety of the commonly known, Oriental Plane Tree, and is a deciduous tree grown for its foliage and lovely stature. The lush foliage emerges dark green in spring and develops golden yellow tones in autumn before falling. A distinctive feature with this tree is the brown bark which peels off in large sheets to reveal a cream-white inner bark. It grows with a broad crown to about 9 m tall and 6 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary which can involve aggressive pruning. It grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site, and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, urban pollution, poor soils, and moderate wind. “Ace of Clubs” makes a fantastic specimen in large gardens or parks, and is often used in avenue plantings.
