Plagianthus regius, commonly known as Ribbonwood or Manatu, is a deciduous, NZ native tree which has both a juvenile and adult form. Juvenile plants are twiggy with interlacing branches hosting foliage that is small and mid-green. As the tree ages the leaves become larger and more prominent. Soon after the foliage emerges in spring, clusters of small, yellow flowers are produced as it grows to 5 m tall and 4 m wide. Plagianthus regius is commonly added to a mixed planting or included in revegetation programs.

Plagianthus regius Details

Plagianthus regius, commonly known as Ribbonwood, is a deciduous, NZ native tree which has both a juvenile and adult form. Juvenile plants are twiggy with interlacing branches hosting foliage that is small and mid-green. As the tree ages the leaves become larger and more prominent. The juvenile stage may last five or more years. Soon after the foliage emerges in spring, clusters of small, yellow flowers are produced which are very aesthetic. It typically grows to 5 m tall and 4 m wide with a spreading crown and grow grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal conditions, frost, cool climates, and periods of dry. Plagianthus regius is commonly added to a mixed planting or included in revegetation programs.
