Plagianthus regius subsp. regius, commonly known as Houi or lowland ribbonwood, is a fast-growing, deciduous New Zealand native tree. It features light green foliage and a graceful, spreading form that can reach 10–15 metres tall. Small, fragrant cream flowers appear in spring and attract native birds and insects. Houi is tolerant of wind and light frost and thrives in full sun with well-drained soil. It’s ideal for shelterbelts, riparian planting, and native revegetation projects.
