Commonly known as Ribbonwood, this is a deciduous, NZ native tree which has both a juvenile and adult form. Juvenile plants are “twiggy” with interlacing branches hosting foliage that is small and mid-green. As the tree ages the leaves become larger and more prominent. The juvenile stage may last 5 or more years. Soon after the foliage emerges in spring, clusters of small, yellow flowers are produced which are very aesthetic. It typically grows to 5 m tall and 4 m wide with a spreading crown and grow grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal conditions, frost, cool climates, and periods of dry. This plant is commonly added to a mixed planting or included in revegetation programs.
