Pittosporum 'Screenmaster'

How to grow Pittosporum 'Screenmaster' in NZ

Pittosporum 'Screenmaster' grows best in a sunny to partially shaded position with well drained soil. It adapts readily to a wide range of soil types and performs successfully throughout much of New Zealand. Water regularly during establishment to encourage strong root development, then only during prolonged dry periods. Adding compost to the planting area can improve soil structure and support healthy growth. Applying mulch around the base helps conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and encourage successful establishment and long term plant health.

Pittosporum 'Screenmaster' care tips

Pittosporum 'Screenmaster' is easy to maintain and requires little ongoing care once established. Water during extended dry spells, particularly while plants are becoming established. Trim regularly if a formal hedge is desired, or allow plants to grow naturally for a softer appearance. Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser to encourage healthy foliage growth and maintain vigour. Remove any damaged or dead branches as needed. Its hardy nature and strong growth make it an excellent choice for screening and shelter planting.

Pittosporum 'Screenmaster' size, spacing, and growth rate

Pittosporum 'Screenmaster' typically grows to around 3 to 5 metres tall and 2 to 3 metres wide, forming a dense upright shrub. Growth is fast, allowing plants to establish quickly and provide effective screening and privacy. Space plants approximately 75 centimetres to 1 metre apart for hedging or screening purposes. This spacing allows the plants to merge into a dense barrier while still providing adequate airflow and room for healthy development.
