Pittosporum eugenioides (Tarata) Details

Pittosporum eugenioides, commonly known as Lemonwood Pittosporum or Tarata, is a popular, NZ native tree. It features green-yellow foliage which has a strong lemony smell when crushed. Large clusters of fragrant, lemon-yellow flowers are borne in spring and result in small fruit that attract birds. It typically grows to 12 m tall and 5 m wide with a broad, conical shape though can be contained with trimming as necessary. This tree is very hardy and will grow in the poorest of soils and is tolerant of coastal conditions, wind, frost, and cool climates. That said, best performance will be achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site. Pittosporum eugenioides is commonly used for hedging, screening, or grown as a specimen. It is also commonly included in native revegetation exercises.
