Phyllostachys edulis

Moso Bamboo

Phyllostachys edulis, commonly known as Moso Bamboo, is one of the more elegant and extraordinary bamboo varieties. It is also one of the worlds largest, producing stems that may reach 20 m tall with a 50 cm diameter. The erect stems host a canopy of lush, dark green leaves. This is a hardy and fast-growing Bamboo that performs best when planted in full sun or partial shade on well-drained site. It does require shelter and frost protection when young and will not tolerate poorly drained soils. This running Bamboo makes for an impressive feature and is generally grown as a cluster in a large garden or included in Oriental gardens. In smaller spaces it may require root containment barriers to stop it spreading.
