Kaikomako, Bellbird Tree
Pennantia corymbosa, commonly known as Kaikōmako or the Bellbird Tree, is a native New Zealand evergreen tree or shrub growing up to 10 metres tall. It features glossy, dark green leaves and produces small, fragrant white flowers in spring, followed by blue-black berries that are attractive to native birds. Kaikōmako thrives in a variety of soils and light conditions, from full sun to shade, and is often used in native planting schemes and coastal gardens. This hardy plant is valued for its role as a wildlife habitat, its ornamental appeal, and its ability to withstand wind and salt spray.
