Parrotia persica, commonly known as the Persian Ironwood Tree, is a small tree grown for its fantastic autumn colours. The foliage emerges light green in spring, darkens during summer, then turns a myriad of brilliant orange and purple colours in autumn before falling. The Persian Ironwood grows as a broadly spreading tree, reaching approximately 8 m in height and 6 m in width. Parrotia persica is often grown in medium to extensive gardens either as a specimen or included in a mixed planting. It is also well-suited to avenue planting.
