Parrotia persica pendula Details

Parrotia persica Pendula, commonly known as the Parrotia Plant or Parrotia Persian Ironwood, is a tree grown for its amazing autumn colours and weeping growth habit. The foliage emerges light green in spring, darkens during summer, then turns brilliant orange, red, and yellow tones in autumn before falling. This unusual plant does not naturally grow with a central stem to trail from and would otherwise grow as a mound. We train a central stem and allow the tree to cascade from the supported stem. With this regime it typically grows to 3 m tall and same wide. Best results with this tree are achieved when grown in a full sun position on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, extended dry periods, and moderate wind. This Parrotia tree is often grown as a specimen or included in mixed plantings. It is an amazing and beautiful tree.
