The leaves are glossy green, oval shaped, and have a white underside. They are complemented with clusters of small, white flowers in summer. Olearia traversiorum is commonly included in a mixed planting, revegetation planting, trimmed into a hedge, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, or used for shelter on dry, exposed sites.

Olearia traversiorum, commonly known as the Chatham Island Ake Ake, is a fast-growing, NZ native tree that grows to about 5 m tall and 4 m wide. The leaves are glossy green, oval shaped, and have a white underside. They are complemented with clusters of small, white flowers in summer. Best performance with this tree is achieved when it is planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal conditions, wind, light frost, and periods of dry.
