Chatham Island Matipo
Myrsine chathamica, commonly known as Chatham Island matipo, is a small tree native to the Chatham Islands of New Zealand. It grows 6 to 8 metres tall and forms a dense, upright canopy with glossy, broad leaves. Small flowers appear in spring, followed by purple fruits that attract native birds. This hardy species thrives in coastal and forested habitats, tolerating wind and salt exposure. Ideal for native revegetation or shelter planting, it brings structure and biodiversity to exposed NZ landscapes.
