Growing Metrosideros robusta Successfully in NZ

To grow Metrosideros robusta (Northern Rata) successfully in New Zealand, plant it in a sunny to partially shaded location with well-drained soil. This hardy native tree tolerates coastal exposure, wind, and a wide range of soil types, including poor or rocky soils. Water regularly during establishment, then only during extended periods of dryness. Mulch annually to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Feed in spring with a slow-release fertiliser. The only pruning required is to remove damaged or crossing branches as needed.
