Metrosideros kermadecensis variegata is an outstanding variety of Pohutukawa which is grown for its colourful leaves and flowers. It features lush foliage that is variegated dark green and cream. The foliage is adorned with bright red flowers through summer. This NZ Christmas tree grows with an open habit to about 6 m tall and 4 m wide, preferring a full sun position and a well-drained site. It is tolerant of poor soils, dry periods, moderate frost, and coastal climates. This Pohutukawa is an excellent choice for coastal gardens, adding to a mixed planting, trimming into a hedge, using as a backdrop for smaller plants, growing as a screen, planting for shelter, or growing as a specimen.
