Metrosideros excelsa ‘Aurea’, commonly known as the Yellow Pohutukawa, is a rare and striking New Zealand native tree that features soft yellow flowers instead of the typical red. Growing 6–10 metres tall with a broad, spreading canopy, it offers a unique alternative for feature planting, coastal landscapes, or native gardens. Evergreen with dense, grey-green foliage, ‘Aurea’ is wind- and salt-tolerant, thriving in full sun and well-drained soils. It’s an excellent choice for year-round structure and summer colour.

It would be fine in a pot that size for 3-5 years. Growing it in a pot will keep it somewhat dwarfed... a bonsai effect with the roots being restricted.
