Metasequoia glyptostroboides Gold Rush is a colourful, deciduous conifer native to China. It features fine, needle like, golden leaves which turn colourful shades of orange-brown in autumn before falling. This stately tree grows with a narrow and conical shape to about 20 m tall and 8 m wide, preferring a full sun position and a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, extended dry periods, moderate wind, and a wide range of soil conditions, including wet and heavy soils. Metasequoia Gold Rush is commonly grown as a specimen, used to help with erosion control, planted for shelter, or grown around large water features such as ponds and lakes.
