Melicytus lanceolatus is a fast-growing NZ native tree with white bark and spear-shaped green leaves that often curve downward. Male trees produce purple flowers, while female trees bear yellow flowers followed by dark purple berries that attract birds. It typically grows to 8 m tall and 6 m wide, thriving in full sun and well-drained soils. Hardy to frost and dry conditions, it’s ideal for shelter, screening, coastal planting, or as a feature in native gardens.
