“Wrights Scarlet” is variety of Crabapple grown for its colourful fruit and flowers. Flower buds open in spring to reveal showy, white blossoms just as the foliage emerges. The flowers result in heavy crops of large, red fruit in autumn which are loved by birds. The glossy leaves emerge green in spring, age to dark green, then develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 3 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a fertile, well-drained site, protected from wind. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though late frosts in spring can reduce yields. “Wrights Scarlet” is commonly grown as a specimen, included in a cottage garden, or used in an avenue planting. This is a showy plant that will impress.
