Malus 'Red Jade'

How to grow Malus 'Red Jade' in NZ

Malus 'Red Jade' grows best in a sunny position with fertile, well drained soil. Improve the planting area with compost before planting and water regularly until the tree establishes. Apply a quality slow release fertiliser each spring to encourage healthy growth, abundant blossom, and colourful fruit. Good air circulation helps maintain a healthy tree.

Malus 'Red Jade' care tips

Malus 'Red Jade' requires minimal maintenance once established. Water during prolonged dry periods while young and apply mulch around the base to retain soil moisture while keeping it clear of the trunk. Light winter pruning can remove damaged or crossing branches and help maintain the elegant weeping framework.

Malus 'Red Jade' size, spacing, and growth rate

Malus 'Red Jade' typically grows 3 to 4 metres tall with a spread of 3 to 5 metres. It has a moderate growth rate and develops a broad cascading canopy over time. Allow at least 4 metres of space from nearby trees and structures so its graceful habit can be fully appreciated.
