Malus Golden Hornet Details

Malus Golden Hornet is a variety of Crabapple that is grown for its amazing flowers and colourful fruits. Pink flower buds open into white blossoms in spring just as the green foliage emerges. The fragrant flowers result in large crops of small, oval, golden yellow fruit which is often made into Crabapple jelly. The foliage emerges mid-green, ages to dark green, then develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a broad, rounded crown to about 10 m tall and 8 m wide but can be contained with trimming. Best performance with this tree is achieved when grown in full sun on a fertile, well-drained site, protected from wind. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though late frosts in spring can reduce yields. Malus Golden Hornet is commonly grown as a specimen, maintained in a courtyard garden, or included in a cottage garden.
