Malus floribunda is a popular variety of Crabapple is grown for its profuse flowering and colourful fruit. It bears masses of crimson buds that open into showy, white flowers with a hint of pink through spring. These result in small, orange fruit in autumn which attract all manner of wildlife. The foliage emerges green in spring, ages to a dark green, then develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. The branches tend to be horizontal, if not somewhat pendulous in nature. It typically grows to 4 m tall and the same wide and can be contained with trimming as necessary. This variety performs best when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site that does not dry out, and it is tolerant of frost and cool climates. Malus floribunda is commonly grown as an impressive specimen, used in avenue plantings, added to a mixed planting, or included anywhere it can be appreciated.
