Malus Ballerina Maypole Details

The Ballerina series of Crabapple trees have a tight, columnar growth habit and reach just 40 cm wide which is quite unique. They are often maintained at any height between 1 and 4 m tall. Maypole is one of the varieties and features large and frilly, double, pink flowers. These result in red coloured fruit in autumn which are great for making jelly and attracting birds. The foliage in spring emerges a fresh green, ages to a darker green, and then develops yellow and orange tones in autumn before falling. Best results with this variety are achieved when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site that does not dry out. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates. Ballerina Maypole is commonly grown against wall and fences, used to line a path, planted as a backdrop to smaller plants, included in a mixed planting, or maintained in a container.
