Malus baccata Jackii

Malus baccata Jackii is a variety of Crabapple that features pink flower buds that open into large, white blossoms in spring, just as the green foliage emerges. The lightly scented flowers result in large crops of small, red-maroon fruit. It grows with a broad and rounded crown to about 5 m tall and 4 m wide, and can be contained with trimming. Malus Jackii is commonly grown as a specimen, maintained in a courtyard garden, included in a cottage garden, or used in an avenue planting.

Malus baccata Jackii Details

Malus baccata Jackii is a variety of Crabapple grown for its amazing flowers and colourful fruits. Pink flower buds open into large, white blossoms in spring, just as the green foliage emerges. The lightly scented flowers result in large crops of small, red-maroon fruit which are often made into Crabapple jelly. The glossy leaves emerge mid-green in spring, darken during summer, then develop colourful yellow-orange tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a broad and rounded crown to about 5 m tall and 4 m wide, and can be contained with trimming. Best performance with this tree is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a fertile, well-drained site, protected from wind. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though late frosts in spring can reduce yields. Malus Jackii is commonly grown as a specimen, maintained in a courtyard garden, included in a cottage garden, or used in an avenue planting.
