This is a popular variety of Magnolia due to its spectacular flowering. It bears masses of large and showy, pink flowers through late winter and early spring. The fragrant blooms are borne on the naked stems before the foliage emerges. The lush foliage emerges dark green in spring, remains this colour until autumn, then develops yellow tones before falling. It typically grows to 8 m tall and 5 m wide and can be contained with trimming. This Magnolia grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, and is tolerant of frost and cool climates. Magnolia soulangeana is commonly grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting, or used in avenue plantings. The beauty of this tree will please no matter where it is planted.
