Magnolia macrophylla Details

Magnolia macrophylla, commonly known as Bigleaf Magnolia, is grown for its showy flowers and lush foliage. Through late spring and early summer, it bears large and showy, fragrant, ivory-coloured flowers. These result in cone-like fruit which mature to red. The foliage comprises very large, mid-green leaves which are both lush and highly aesthetic. The weight of the leaves often causes the branches to hang downwards. This deciduous tree typically grows to 15 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates. Magnolia macrophylla is commonly grown as a specimen in a park or large garden.
