This variety of Magnolia is a deciduous tree grown for its spectacular flowering. It bears masses of large and showy, pink flowers through late winter and early spring. The fragrant blooms are borne on the naked stems before the foliage emerges. The leaves emerge dark green in spring, remain this colour until autumn, then develop yellow tones before falling. It typically grows to 8 m tall and 6 m wide and can be contained with trimming. This variety grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site, and is tolerant of frost and cool climates. Magnolia Iolanthe is commonly grown as a specimen in a park or large garden and provides fantastic shade during summer.
