“Dawn” is a variety of the commonly known Star Magnolia, and is grown for its exquisite flowers and compact nature. Dark pink flower buds open in spring to reveal star shaped, blush pink flowers that age to become white. The fragrant blooms appear just before the lush, green leaves emerge. The leaves age to become dark green then develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 3 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. This variety grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site, and is tolerant of frost and cool climates. “Dawn” is commonly grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting, included in a cottage garden, or planted as a cluster for a stunning display. The beauty of this tree will please no matter where it is planted.
