It bears masses of large and showy, purple, and white flowers through late winter and early spring which are borne on the naked stems before the foliage emerges. The lush foliage emerges soon after and is dark green and takes on yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a rounded habit to about 4 m tall and 3 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary.
