Maackia amurensis Details

Maackia amurensis is a medium sized tree renowned for its flowers and exfoliating bark. Dense, upright blooms carrying small, white flowers that are borne during summer. These blooms are followed by flat seed pods. The young foliage is grey-green and matures to dark green and falls during autumn without any significant change in colour. The bark is an interesting copper-grey colour and sheds readily as loose flakes and curls. This deciduous tree typically grows to 8 m and 5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of cool climates, frost, dry periods, and some wind. Maackia amurensis is commonly used in medium sized gardens as a backdrop to smaller plants and to provide screening or in an avenue planting.
