Liquidambar styraciflua Golden Treasure, commonly known as variegated Sweet Gum, is grown for its great form and colourful foliage. The leaves emerge variegated green and gold in spring and remain this way until autumn. As autumn progresses, they develop impressive shades of yellow and orange before falling. It grows quickly with a pyramidal shape to about 20 m tall and 8 m wide though can easily be contained with trimming. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, moderately sheltered site, noting that it is tolerant of frost and cool climates. This Variegated Sweet Gum makes for a fantastic specimen tree and is perfect for avenue planting, or including anywhere spectacular colour is desired.
