“Lane Roberts” is a popular variety of Liquidambar due to its beautiful foliage and brilliant autumn colours. It has star-shaped leaves which emerge a rich, dark green colour in spring. As autumn progresses, the leaves turn impressive shades of deep red and burgundy before falling. It typically grows to 10 m tall and 8 m wide with an upright and broad growth habit. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is hardy to frost, cool climates, dry periods, heavier soils, and some wind but should be protected while it is establishing to produce a better tree. “Lane Roberts” makes for a lovely specimen and is great for avenue planting, growing for shade, or planting to enjoy a spectacular autumn display.
