Ligustrum lucidum Details

Ligustrum lucidum, known as the Tree Privet or Glossy Privet, is a fast-growing, small tree which is grown for its form, foliage, and flowers. It grows with a rounded shape and carries small, green leaves. The foliage is adorned with masses of white flowers during spring which literally transform the plant. This evergreen typically grows to 10 m tall and 4 m wide but is often shaped and contained with trimming. Best results with Glossy Privet are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site, noting that it is tolerant of moderate frost, dry periods, and coastal conditions. Ligustrum lucidum is often clipped into a hedge, grown as a specimen tree, used in avenue plantings, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants. NB: this plant is not sold in NZ due to its invasive nature.
