It grows with a pyramidal habit hosting green, fern-like foliage and has stringy bark. It is slow growing and reach just 4 m in height after 10 years and eventually reaches 21 m tall and 10 m wide. Libocedrus plumosa is commonly grown in a large garden as a specimen, included in woodland plantings, or added to a native regeneration project. The slow growth rate makes it suitable for medium sized gardens and for maintaining in a container.

Libocedrus plumosa, commonly known as Kawaka or the New Zealand Cedar, is a NZ native conifer often grown as specimen tree. It grows with a pyramidal habit hosting green, fern-like foliage and has stringy bark. It is slow growing and reach just 4 m in height after 10 years. It will, however, eventually reach 21 m tall and 10 m wide, and performs best when grown in full sun on a well-drained, fertile site. It is tolerant of cool climates, frost, semi-shade, and periods of dry. Libocedrus plumosa is commonly grown in a large garden as a specimen, included in woodland plantings, or added to a native regeneration project. The slow growth rate makes it suitable for medium sized gardens and for maintaining in a container.
